World Spine Care remembers Prof. Margareta Nordin

Prof. Margareta Nordin, founder and past president of World Spine Care Europe passed away on May 28, 2025.

The World Spine Care community is saddened to hear about the passing of Margareta Nordin, Dr. Med. Sci., PT. 

Professor Nordin was the founding president of World Spine Care Europe and instrumental in forging a relationship with Professor Rajani Mullerpatan at the MGM Institute of Health Sciences in Navi Mumbai to establish a collaborative clinic in the School of Physiotherapy.

Margareta was a research professor in the Departments of Orthopedic Surgery and Environmental Medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. She was an adjunct professor at multiple universities.

Dr. Nordin was the first woman to serve as President of the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine and EUROSPINE, where she chaired the founding of the EUROSPINE Diploma in Interprofessional Spine Care (EDISC). She was on the executive of the Bone and Joint Decade Task Force on Neck Pain and Associated Disorders. She was the co-principal investigator for Phase I of World Spine Care’s Global Spine Care Initiative. She was a member of the WHO Package of Rehabilitation Interventions for Low Back Pain (2020-2021) and was involved in SPINE20, as both a speaker and the first official member of their Education Committee.

Margareta’s family has set up a guestbook where friends and colleagues can submit photos and memories.

This year’s European Spine Ride will be held in her memory and renamed the Margareta Memorial Ride. The route will take the cyclists very close to her home in France. Donations to the ride will help support the clinic Margareta helped establish at the Mahatma Gandhi Mission School of Physiotherapy in Navi Mumbai, India.
